[F-6 Visa Reacquisition Part 2] Why the first F-6 was invalidated (did not return to Korea for over a year)

AI translation (日本語 → English)The first F-6 visa expired because I hadn't returned to Korea for over a year. I realized it when I tried to enter Korea for a family trip.

【First F-6 (2014-2016)】
I lived in Korea on an F-6 visa from 2014 to 2016. After that, my work in Japan became busy, and there were times I couldn't enter Korea for more than a year.

【"Forgetting to Return Within a Year"】
If you are registered as a foreigner, your F-6 can expire if you don't return within a year of leaving. I should have known this, but I completely forgot.

【Realization During Family Trip to Jeju Island】
About five years ago, when I went to Jeju Island for a family trip, I was told at immigration that my visa had expired, and my foreigner registration card was confiscated on the spot.

【What Issues Did You Face During Reapplication?】
The fact that it had expired did not cause any issues with this application. Rather, as it was my second time, I was exempt from various documents, making it easier (as mentioned in ①).

【For Those Who Will Be Away from Korea for a Long Time】
  • For those registered as foreigners, if you return within a year of leaving, you do not need a re-entry permit.
  • If you expect to be away for over a year, make sure to apply for a re-entry permit before leaving.
  • Since work or family circumstances can extend your plans, it’s reassuring to mark a "date one year later" on your calendar before leaving (I also wish I had done that).
For detailed conditions, please check HiKorea (https://www.hikorea.go.kr).

※ This is my personal experience. The system may change, so please confirm the latest information through official announcements.
